CHRISTMAS NAP

I opened my sleepy eyes

Having fallen asleep in your arms

And felt your heart thumping

Strikingly in time with mine

I heard our daughter

She was laughing in the distance

Singing and dancing in her room

Everything in this moment beautifully fine

You were breathing a peaceful snore

The dog’s collar jingled

As she readjusted her sleeping curl

This Christmas nap a snapshot in my mind

As if you could read my thoughts

You awoke with a smile reaching your eyes

You looked at me and said, “ I love you ya know”

I smiled back “Ya know…that’s my favorite line”

We talked for a while, just lying there

We talked about our lives, how we feel

Where we have been this past year

We have been right here, together, this whole time

Sometimes we forget, to talk, to listen, to care

Sometimes we linger too far to hear

Sometimes our eyes land on different stars

Sometimes we chose different mountains to climb

But our destination was determined

The moment we first met

No matter how individual our journey

I always end up in your arms, lying here by your side

Honesty and truth a path of jagged stones

Cutting us bloody, and tripping us up

But leading us to the bluest of skies

And oceans that carry us in their tide

I love others, this much is true

Just as others tempt your heart too

But in the end and through it all

I reserve these Christmas naps for you

  1. This is just beautiful, so romantic and sums up the bumps along the road.

    This part is perfect:
Sometimes our eyes land on different stars/Sometimes we chose different mountains to climb/But our destination was determined/…I always end up in your arms, lying here by your side

And that hat is soooooo sexy :)
