WORDS FELL LIKE WATERFALLS

You took my hand and we ran for awhile

Under limitless skies of sunlit blue

Words fell like waterfalls

From mountains that touched the sky

You kissed me under rainbows

Hugged me beneath flowing willows

We dove into the ocean, the two of us

And swam forever and a day

Free as the currents of the sea

And life…

Life felt like a dream

And then the darkness came

Bringing with it sorrow

All the beauty we shared

Got lost in the murky shadows

The words stopped flowing

Our kisses turned to poison

And before long we got lost in the crowd

Beneath smothering blankets of cloud

And life…

Life felt too much like reality

  1. This is a whole poem – too much stuff you read is some tenuous idea surrounded by too many words that try to hard to make the idea sound real. But not this. this has all the elements that make a poem ring true.

  3. that’s just the story of life. at one point we flow together and at the next point we drift apart and form two streams and flow separately.
    beautiful poem.
