ARSENIC WORDS

Daily Prompt: Polite Company

“It’s never a good idea to discuss religion or politics with people you don’t really know.” Agree or disagree?

IMG_7523

I happen to disagree. I love to discuss my point of view and listen to other people’s point of view. It is how I learn new things and gain understanding and perspective. However, I find too many people in the public eye have no clue what they are talking about and try to persuade the masses with half truths and lies. Of course that is MY opinion. For example, I am a Christian and I am floored to hear so many Christians spreading lies about a faith they clearly haven’t put too much thought into. Same goes for politics. Too many people rely on their respect of someone else to help them make their decisions. Regardless, individuals must distinguish for themselves the truth by caring enough to look for it. We must learn to find the reputable sources and seek out clarity even when it seems pointless. There aren’t enough people looking for answers but everyone seems to have one.

Hungry, empty eyes

Lap up arsenic words

Cast out in darkness

And reeling in belief

Spellbinding fiction

Found dressed up in lies

Ego machines spitting images

Upon ornately embellished

Political and religious walls

Point of view

Expelled in the most colorful

Mesmerizing hues

Beware the soul

That lost its mate

The mind that thinks

Locked behind deaths gate

While wisdom spirals

Aimless and hopeless

Deception dances a jig

Casting shadowy

Poisonous suspicion

Rising like steam

From pages unwritten

Speeches fed casually

To mainstream minds

Hearts skip beats

Before stepping in time

To the mastery of words

Conceived by creative minds

Chapters unwritten

Stream lazily before thee

Carrying away promises

Slaughtering dreams

They drown sorrows

Wrapping memories

In melancholic chains

Meaning flows carelessly

Through languid veins

Toxic levels rising

Until I decide to take charge

Of these opinions of mine

  1. Religion is a byproduct of fear. For much of human history, it may have been a necessary evil, but why was it more evil than necessary? Isn’t killing people in the name of God a pretty good definition of insanity?”

    -Arthur C. Clarke

You always manage to top yourself again with this poem. Many close-minded people with all the same answers and yet no open-minded interpretations to lure one’s eye to capture. Excellent poem and outstanding!
    :)

  2. This is a very interesting topic, and you are absolutely right. So many people are close minded even when they contain no information whatsoever, and therefore shouldn’t have an answer, even though miraculously do. Great poem, it was very amazing. :)

  3. We live in a world fueled by politics and religion. My question to myself is what is the true politics fo religion or where is religion on politics? Thanks for the pingback

  6. Is religion really so bad, it is actually used to create a moral system by which to control masses of people. That, imho, is why religion and politics are so intertwined. Too much knowledge can be problematic in religion because it then can create conflict which disrupts the system and its ability to keep peace and order. Following others is easier and creates less conflict unless the others are morons then you just get morons leading the dumb which then is idiocy. Time to stop babbling, enjoyed the moment of thought. Read ya later! :)

  7. A very strong poem, I kept trying to pick my favourite line but couldn’t; they are all strong in their own right. Thank you for including my link. Great writing!

  8. Arsenic words powerful I must say, burns few and sometimes betrays, but on the whole who cares what others say, no one want any answers anyway..have a good day..

  9. Thank you for the ping back. Quite an appropriate title for your post. I have to say not a lot of people think like you; most I find are too quick to judge.
I loved the poem; very strong imagery.
    Keep writing!
