Your home is on fire. Grab five items (assume all people and animals are safe). What did you grab?

I would grab nothing!  And that is the truth! Each day is a new day and memories are shared with people not things.

I held a deck of cards

Laid them out

And read in them

The stories they told

Of you and I

The nights spent side by side

Our breakfasts at the table

The couch, the blanket

The fireplace, the wine

The child we tucked in

And sang our lullaby

Each room in the house

Full of recollections

And as I watch

Golden yellow flames

Lick each memory

I realize

This house of cards

Though colorful

Just the medium

Our memories played on

And you and I

Without a word

Hold each other

And watch

As this house of cards

Goes up in flames

Memories safe and sound

Inside of us
