Daily Prompt: Cupid’s Arrow
Not a true story but I felt like doing fiction today! Inspired by stories about True First Loves!
Ice crystals formed
White lace spiders
Spelling out her name
The house was dark
The windows dirty
Residents long gone
She came to the house
Decades ago a child
Abandoned
At the age of three
Just another mouth to feed
She came here
Met the man of her dreams
He was handsome
A boy of four with salty blond hair
And eyes a grassy meadow green
The orphanage kept them well
They hid from adults
Looking to rescue them
They were in love
No other place would feel like home
They grew up and married
Had beautiful kids of their own
He was her soul mate
The man her heart was made
Since his death she visits
On Valentine’s day each year
The window of this old house
When cold and frosty
She could still see his love
Written so long ago
On a foggy plane of glass
Her name next to his
Signed with the shape of a heart

One of the things I do is travel overseas and help facilitate adoptions for people in Russia, Haiti, the Philippines etc. that’s what this reminded me of. Very nice.
So beautiful and compelling story of love in your poem. Eloquently written. Thank you for sharing. Thank you for the pingback.

The format here is awesome Hasty! Wow! I love your work so much! You blow me away! ~Jen
This has this staggering element.
“Ice crystals formed
White lace spiders
Spelling out her name”
which ties to
“The window of this old house
When cold and frosty
She could still see his love
Written so long ago
On a foggy plane of glass
Her name next to his
Signed with the shape of a heart”
Really, really nice.
Great job
What a lovely ode to first loves! Thanks for leaving a pingback. Happy Valentine’s Day!

Such a beautiful poem – reading this was a lovely way to start my day off, thank you!
Some great imagery in this one. I though your structuring complemented the voice of the poem.
What jumped out at me was the clarity of the story you have woven through your verse.
As she stared at the frosted and dirty glass, what she ” saw” was what she chose to see I guess.
Loved it!
Shakti
Beautiful poem! I could feel the words with my heart. Such tender emotions… Welldone!
Wonderful and apt use of the personification of the relationship as not just a house, but a window on the world that they shared. Utterly haunting and so perfect in every detail. Great poetry.
