Lists and the 100 Word Story: Prompt

My list of observances occurred on Sept 1 of 2003
The house is too quiet.
I go to chart my cycle and think I can’t do this anymore.
I notice a woman with three children as I buy my last pregnancy test.
I find it ironic I am transferring my husband’s 8mm baby films to VHS on labor day.
I cry as I watch my husband learn to walk, mourning my decision to stop trying to get pregnant.
I have been charting my cycle for a year with little dots fueling my desires. We don’t talk about my expectations so it will be easier for me to bury them as they die. I think I gave up a week ago because I used a bug fogger in the backyard and I drank a bottle of wine. My mind is composing an opera, “It isn’t meant to be” trying to prepare me. Today I watched movies of my husband as a baby and decide to take one last test. Honey, I have something to tell you… I am pregnant.
