THE UNDERTOW

There’s a peace in the undertow
The moment you give in and fall
As you are frozen by all the snow
The heat inside you begins to grow

Every tear you cry is kept like sand
Inside oceans giving life to the dead
Wandering spirits fly over the land
A reminder of redemption planned

Inside the diatribe, a demon’s will
Tries to end the peace given to you
Its frequency the hardest to hear
But it’s the easiest to actually feel

The strings that strum your chords
Slowly begin to bleed bitter notes
As you tick along aging forward
Until the music sounds like words

A curse being cast into your soul
You begin to scratch your body
To let the tortured parts flow
Reacting with a radiated glow

Poisoned ghosts imprisoned
Until you finally find the one
Stopping in his tracks to listen
Calling your name he has risen

There’s a peace in the undertow
The moment you give in and fall
As you are frozen by all the snow
The heat inside you begins to grow

  1. Excellent form, I like the rhythm and rhyming pattern. I’m remarking on this because you so often write free form. It takes skill to use structured forms, and you did it well, without it feeling forced. There are some excellent lines here, too, that just roll off the tongue– poisoned ghosts imprisoned.. Just a fantastic phrase. This poem is tribute to your growing skill – your ability to balance the raw emotion with the craft of writing.
Also, that picture is awesome. Love it.
